Two Very Special Birthdays Today & Presents!

If you haven’t guessed it by now, I’m a huge fan of Depeche Mode.  And that’s an understatement.

From the days of being a thirteen year old listening to what my mom called “depressing chanting music”…

Music for the Masses

to the year 2006, when I met my musical heroes…

DM in DC

and held Martin’s guitar…

Holding Martin's Guitar

to a couple years ago when I finally got my Depeche Mode Violator rose tattoo…

DM Roses

to this past Wednesday night when I discovered one of my favorite bass players was also a DM fan and we fist-bumped over the fact after his show…

It all adds up to a lifetime of being inspired, comforted, and energized by their music.  Yes, it’s dark, but it’s also extremely hopeful and spiritual.  As the boys would say, “It’s a lot like life.”  And I think that’s why, with songs like “Get the Balance Right”, that they “appeal to the masses” as we like to say in the Depeche Mode Universe.   If you’ve read my writing, you’ve heard and felt what Depeche Mode has branded in my spirit and my heart because there’s just no disconnecting from that.  Today is Martin L. Gore’s 51st birthday.  Happy Birthday, Sir.  Today is also my book birthday for The Boss, a 41 page romance about sacrifice, redemption, hope and love.  I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I loved writing it.  Love stories rock!

To celebrate, I’ll gift five free e-copies of The Boss to commenters.  Let me know if you’d like to win and feel free to share about your favorite musicians/artists/bands!

Always love,

Carlene Love♥

  1. Think I was commenting on the Dead Milkmen wasn’t I? 😉 DM has been an acquired taste & I learned to appreciate their talent through you. Your love of music is our blood. I (we) love to read your stories entertwined with the music! Best Listens: Bob Seger’s “Turn The Page” and Journey’s “Faithfully”. Best reads: Sidewalk Flower, Sin’s Flower, The Boss and so much more to come! 😉

    • Haha, no that was the other DM, Mom. I’m sure the song I tortured you with by the Dead Milkmen was “Bitchin’ Camaro” which was actually pretty hysterical. Depeche Mode was definitely my dark passion as a teen and you weren’t too sure you liked that 🙂 Can I just say how cool it is to have you here, Mom? Love you xoxo
